PCmover Easy Guide: Transfer programs, files and user profiles

Time flies so fast, as windows upgrade is. Last year, the first time I started to use this software it was Windows 10 version 1803, then a few months later here comes 1809, then 1903 then 1909, and so on and so forth. 

Last January Microsoft already removed Windows 7 update and customers have to transfer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 operating system.

Now upgrading and buying new pc is not only the problem, but the main problem is also ... 

"How to get all my stuff from the OLD PC get across to the NEW PC without spending so much effort and time doing it?"

I have encountered this software and used it for so many times between my OLD and NEW PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10; Windows 10 to Windows 10.

To software, the name is PCmover Professional from Laplink Software.

Just like other software, it has its own features, benefits, limitations, and requirements.

Let me discuss those, shall we?

PCmover Professional Features:

- PCmover Professional can move programs, files, user profiles

-It has a different method of transfer which are:

• Laplink USB Cable 3.0 (from their website it costs $ 49.95 plus the additional shipping fee may take 5-7 days tops to be shipped. While Amazon costs $ 31.95 and possible that there is no shipping fee especially if you're an Amazon Prime user  Laplink USB Cable: Get it from Amazon.

• You can also use an ethernet cable which is free when you purchase PCmover Ultimate. Ok let me give you a brief introduction as to what is PCmover Ultimate vs PCmover Professional, well they're not enemies actually .. Both of these versions uses PCmover Professional software. While PCmover Professional is a software (download version)

now PCmover Ultimate includes a FREE Laplink Ethernet Cable and this is a box version (when you purchased this, to be too excited to open it) you might lost a paper inside that contains your serial number. It no longer have a CD included, you need to download the software which is also PCmover Professional.

From Laplink website these versions of PCmover costs $ 59.95. 

You can also purchase it from Amazon for $ 39.95 only (may or may not have shipping fee) but will be delivered faster once purchased from Amazon:  PCmover Ultimate

While Amazon's have it for $ 29.99 only  PCmover Professional Promo

Additional transfer options are:

• WIFI (will take longer due to experience)
• External storage (which I will discuss to our next post) for some who doesn't know what external storage is:  Seagate 2TB External Storage
• If your OLD PC is already died (RIP) then you can also use a transfer method that needs to connect your OLD PC hard drive to the NEW PC. How to do that?

Now we have already discussed what is the transfer method you can choose from. We must know what are the things we needed to do before the transfer.

First, we must have the software. Once you purchased from Amazon or web.laplink.com you can download and install the software to your OLD and NEW PC.

---- Things that I have mentioned below are not mentioned to the user guide in details --- better to follow the below rules:

Before the transfer please also make sure that your

anti-virus and firewall are both disabled on your PCs

Please also make sure that your OLD and NEW PC Sleep Mode is turned to NEVER

and please disconnect WIFI on both of your PCs too if you will be using an ethernet cable for transfer otherwise leave the WIFI connected if you will be using WIFI for transfer.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

•  folders and files that were saved in cloud storage like google drive, OneDrive, dropbox to name a few these files will not be transferred by PCmover since it is not residing to your PC locally. Hence, what you need to do if you have any files saved to either one of those.

  
  

  Is to log in to those cloud storage on the NEW PC to have those files to synch.
• PCmover will definitely deliver what we have promised which is to transfer programs to the NEW PC. However, there are factors that our customers need to consider, and what are those?

  
  

  - There are programs that are strongly protected by Digital rights management, hence even though PCmover moved it or tried to move it. It will not work properly after the transfer, PCmover will not be able to move it. This software needs to enter the license again on the NEW PC. which PCmover can't bypass and circumvent due to copyright protection and anti-piracy law.

  - Programs that are not compatible to new pc, like moving from 32Bit to 64 bit will not be moved. 

  - OLD drivers, printers drivers, anti-virus, and firewall from the OLD PC are not included to the transfer as well.
• Microsoft Office and most licensed products can transfer over just fine. We cannot guarantee 100% perfect results for all scenarios but a lot of programs will be able to move and keep their license. You can work with the Tech Support program if the program doesn't run after the transfer.

GREAT THING TO KNOW ABOUT PCMOVER:

- It will not delete anything on your PC

- You will be having an option to UNDO the transfer on the NEW PC should you wish to redo it again.
